What Is Apple Pay?

Apple Pay is a mobile payment service that allows users to make payments with their iPhone or Apple Watch. With Apple Pay, iPhone users can easily pay for items at participating stores by holding their phone up to the contactless reader. There are several reasons for which Walmart doesn’t accept Apple Pay, and some of them are as follows:

Apple Processing fees

One of the primary reasons Walmart does not accept Apple Pay is the processing cost.

Apple technology is free to use, but only for the Payer, as the card issuer is responsible for charging on their behalf. Depending on the card, the processing cost can be quite high.

Walmart Pay

Walmart does not accept Apple Pay in order to avoid competing with its own digital payment option.

Walmart collects information about your transactions and sends you notifications about discounts and coupons based on your purchases.

Worst Case Scenario

Well, it’s unlikely that Walmart has considered it, but in a worst-case scenario or World War situation where all Digital Wallets such as Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, and others fail owing to their dependence on NFC.

Walmart Pay will continue to function because it does not rely on near-field communication (NFC) and instead relies on QR codes.  

The same thing happened in Russia after international sanctions and the exclusion of all Russian banks from SWIFT payments, causing Apple Pay, Google Pay, Visa, Mastercard, and other payment systems to fail. Russia then developed QR code payments to address the payment system issue.

  • Create an account by registering and following the procedures.
  • Once you’ve created an account, go to “Account” and then “Wallet” on the app to add a credit or debit card to use to pay your bills.

How to use Walmart Pay in Walmart Store:

  • Scan your products at any self-service checkout or a staffed checkout lane.
  • On the debit reader screen, a one-of-a-kind QR code will appear.
  • Open the Walmart Pay app.
  • Enter your 4-digit pin code.
  • Hover your phone over the QR code on the screen until you hear a sound or receive a message indicating that your transaction was successful.
