DBZ is a globally popular manga and anime franchise that has entertained generations of people all over the world. There is no definitive answer to why Dragon Ball Z remains such a popular franchise. In a world where blockbuster movies come and go, it has stood the test of time, and their popularity continues to grow.
Since the news is out that Disney bought the rights to the live-action Dragon Ball Z movie, new rumors have surfaced every time. Today we will discover the truth behind Disney developing Dragon Ball Z: The Origin as an exclusive Disney Plus film or television series.
Is Disney making Dragon ball Z: The Origin?
The answer is No, Disney isn’t making any series or movie on Dragon ball Z. There is no official announcement from Disney related to Dragon ball Z: The Origin. It is all false rumors circulating on the internet.
We don’t know the origin of false rumors but a Latin YouTuber Mait el Curioso gave the needed boost to this false news. After that, it spread like fire on TikTok, Instagram, and Twitter.
According to rumors, “Dragon Ball Z – The Origin is the next adaptation of the Dragon Ball Franchise by Disney after Dragon Ball Evolution in 2008, this instalment will be produced by Walt Disney Animation and will be distributed exclusively on Disney plus with an exclusive release in theatres for Japan 6 months earlier.”

However, the Image which is used with the context is a fan art created by @vaanrose and posted on Twitter on September 28. It has nothing to do with Disney or Dragon ball Z franchise. Van Rose also posted its fan art on Art Station website with the caption.
Fanart of Goku from Dragonball. A redesign project to see how close I could make this character feel like something out of Disney’s Moana or Reya and the Last Dragon. Mostly an excuse to learn Xgen.
I have to say that for fan art, it’s a beautiful piece of work that took a lot of time and effort to develop. But in the end, it has become part of false propaganda and lost its charm. As many people, after knowing about the false news about Dragon ball Z: The Origin, bashed Van Rose on Twitter without knowing the true story behind the picture.
Your heart’s in the right place but y’all can chill with the DMs apologizing for all the haters. I assure you, my feelings are not hurt; I find the whole thing hilarious.

Disney cannot make any new Dragon Ball Z animated series or movies.
Yes, it is true, Disney cannot officially make any new Dragon Ball Z Animated series or movie even if they want to. As we have already covered in the previous article, Disney doesn’t own the rights to the Dragon ball Z animated series and movies. It is still owned by Akira Toriyama, TOEI Animation, and Shueisha, all of which are based in Japan.
Instead, Disney has the rights to make a live-action Dragon Ball movie and animated film distribution rights. It means Disney cannot make Dragon ball Z: The Origin or any other animated series and movie.
Let’s say for a minute Disney can make the Dragon Ball Z animated series. Still, it is impossible because the animation rights have to be transferred from Akira Toriyama, TOEI Animation, and Shueisha to Disney, and all agree to transfer the work of their 20 years seems unlikely.
Japanese anime creators are known to protect their works of art at any cost. Hayao Miyazaki is one of the Japanese creators who stood his ground against Disney when asked to cut a few scenes from Princess Mononoke but refused. He presented Disney with a samurai sword and the warning “No cuts” in return.
Wrap Up
There is no need to freak out about rumors that Disney will bring back the Dragon Ball Z animated series since it won’t happen.
However, I worry that Disney would seek to capitalize on free publicity and develop a Dragon Ball Z live-action movie after seeing the continued controversies surrounding the franchise.
