UPDATE: 15/07/2021 Satish Venkateshwarlu, Thop TV founder arrested from Hyderabad on July 12 and has been remanded to seven days (until July 19) of police custody by a Mumbai court.

“Those who downloaded the app transferred money, even crypto currency into Satish bank account” said by Police official.

Thop TV, the biggest pirated application for Over-The-Top (OTT) pirated content, his founder has been arrested. Maharashtra Cyber cell has arrested a 28-year-old man from Hyderabad for allegedly relaying and transmitting content on pirated applications.

The arrest was made after media entertainment house Viacom18 Media Pvt. Ltd and another broadcaster approached Maharashtra Cyber over mobile standalone pirate applications violating the copyright act.

As per the Maharashtra Cyber official Thop TV was relaying and transmitting their copyrighted content– movies, TV shows, web-series (VOD content) without authorization at a discounted price to the common public. This act led to a substantial revenue loss to these media entertainment houses. Taking cognisance, they approached the Maharashtra Cyber police and complained, acting on which a case under relevant sections of the Information Technology Act, Copyright Act, and Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered

Looking at the involvement of big media entertainment houses, the Maharashtra Cyber police quickly came into action.

Preliminary technical investigation revealed that the suspect in the case, identified as Satish Shriramdasu Venkateshwarlu, 28, a resident of Hyderabad, telecasted the content, and he was immediately arrested.

As per the information, It has revealed that the accused Satish had created a standalone pirated application, through which he used to steal most of the top media entertainment house content using its inbuilt API.

The arrested Thop TV creator was produced before the local magistrate court, which remanded him to police custody for a week. Thop Tv unlikely coming back
