Amazon has now become one of only a handful of companies certified by the U.S. government to operate its fleet of Prime Air delivery drones or in simple words Amazon’s drone delivery, which allows the company to expand unmanned package delivery.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) designated Amazon Prime Air an “air carrier,” the company said. That allows Amazon to begin its first commercial deliveries in the U.S. under a trial program, using the high-tech devices & technology it unveiled for that purpose last year.
“The FAA supports innovation that is beneficial to the public, especially during a health or weather-related crisis.” said a spokesperson for the FAA
The FAA approval doesn’t mean that every Amazon packages are going to be delivered by drone right away. Amazon said it’ll take more time and work before its drone operations are ready to scale, but this approval will allow it to start testing customer deliveries.
Amazon has started working on its drone delivery program from 2013. The company has already piloted 30-minute successful deliveries in England and tested the service in controlled settings in the US. Prime Air is the third company to be cleared by the FAA for commercial drone deliveries, joining Alphabet’s Wing and UPS.
